A quick introduction to pointers.

int *a=&b; means that 'a' is a pointer that will point at the same integer that 'b' points at.
Just like in natural language you'd say "Person *me = you" and then I'd be pointing with my finger at the same person as you do.
But let's just cross our fingers that we're now really pointing at a person and not, say, a goat. Because goats don't like to confused as people. Or were we pointing at a deleted person, that'd be nasty too don't you think?

Yes, this story had a reasoning behind it - that dumb pointers should be used with caution.

Ah, better late than never.

Managed to get a bunch of things acheived over the Christmas break... including my first dub/foley of an animation. Turned out to be much easier than I thought - SoundForge lets you line up the sounds to animations very simply. Great fun.

Also finished off two tunes - one at Mike's bidding, and one simply because I watched Evil Dead - which appears to have it's title credits used for the Wallace and Gromit theme tune...

They're here if you want 'em:

Dark Rite
Good lord! Breakbeat!

And back to work tomorrow, for the dreaded Code Review. Which I want to do less than perhaps anything else I've done in my entire life.

Ah, the weekend beckons.

Remember you can catch my pirate radio broadcast every Saturday at 10pm.

There's an Interface pirate radio gig at the Ocean Rooms if you're nearby, feel free to come and say 'hi'...

It's a wonder it's managed to go ahead, though - here's a snippet from the Interface mailing list:

"tho fell ill and cuddent do a thing..not even managed
to get threu aND TO MEEETING WITH A FEW MAGS WHO WOULD HAVE FEATURED
US AND DONE A WRITE UP ON US ETC IN TERURN FOR A FEW GUESTTICKKETS
oops caps..to give away via their mag or obviously keep for emself"

Via Something Awful:

"Where should I hide the body?"

I just don't know why anyone would ever have this question. There are so many things that one can do to get rid of a human body and this is such a big world that I am in constant amazement that any murderers ever get caught. I mean, seriously, you can put that thing anywhere. It's tiny in relation to almost everything else in existence. If you cut it up into pieces it could be even more easily disposed of. There are also many ways of cleanly and quietly disposing of a corpse so as to not get caught with physical evidence. I'm not sure what resources you currently have access to, but if possible all you'd have to do is burn it, soak the ashes in lye, and subsequently scatter/dump what's left of the ashes in a large body of water or a river. This method is virtually foolproof as there would really be no way of finding anything or identifying the remains. If you don't have access to anything that would burn a human body, simply put the body in a bathtub, fill the bathtub with drain-cleaner, wait a day, and simply wash your troubles down the drain.

Well, that's certainly lateral thinking, and does raise the question - why DOES anyone get caught?

If you haven't already seen it, INSULTINGLY STUPID MOVIE PHYSICS is well worth a read. If nothing else, it shows me how wonderfully little I have to deal with physics in my every day coding life.

In the 'VCR'

Mixed Up Zombies AKA 'Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies, The '
Zombie Nightmare starring the ever popular Adam West

He did get old tho...

Also, Zombie 3 (so obscure that I can't find anything about it) and Zombie 4 - After Death - and that's not even an MST3K episode!

After a story about some dumb redneck shooting at ah oil pipeline, and a follow post on Fark about people shooting at propane tanks (!), someone posted this:

Perhaps this country should invest in "Darwinian Devices." Something similar to propane tanks, but fill them with nitroglycerine. Set them out in the middle of nowhere, well away from where they might hurt someone. Put, in big red letters, "Extremely explosive. Do not shoot, steal, kick, or otherwise contact." Then wait and see who removes themselves from the gene pool.

It's a good idea, but you can only get a few of them in each go...

Well, I've started research into my mod - I did this by downloading every zombie film I could find on the network, including the helpfully labelled 'zombies - Dawn Of The Dead.avi'

I shall be buying in mountains of popcorn this weekend.

Oh, and for those of you interested, preliminary pictures of my Natural Selection map are rather hastily up here.

A puzzle!

Will'o The Wisp appears by kind permission of the British Gas Corporation.

Was Kenneth Williams' character originally a television advert?

I shall perhaps never know, as google has (sadly) let me down.

Anyone know?

Hmm, nicely organised.

Just found ModDataBase - in their own words:

The moddatabase is unlike any site for mods on the internet presently. Its aim is to list every mod regardless of game a goal that shall hopefully be achieved with time.. Furthermore once a mod is listed an abundant amount of features is opened, both allowing much promotion and invaluable interaction with fellow members. Here is a quick guide to the modDB

You can even get it to email you once a mod is updated. Now I don't have to trawl 20 different sites I can only vaguely remember, once every six months.

For those of you who missed it first time around* - the thumbs!

(outdated and deleted, see above!)

Get these using the Edonkey network, using the wonderful E-Mule client - now with new ed2k links that specify the IP to get a source from, fantastic!

*and most of my hits are from people looking for BatThumb...

Also don't forget the nice boys over at ChronicLogic and their great game, Pontifex2.

Oh and have a look at BTB - looks like I might be helping them.

Speaking of which, if there's a talented character artist out there, mail me!

Brilliant, I'm glad someone finally came up with my idea

Essentially it emulates old soundcard for a DOS window running on a W2k machine.

Now if only someone will emulate the protected memory system that DOS4GW needs, I'm a happy man.

I'm sure this would make a great monster truck game, too.

Thank you Kevan.

I mean, I'm sure he's proud to own the shop and all, but...
